Alright, so I want to do something and I need YOUR help.

Whenever people ask me about specific halls, I tend to get a lot of asks with varying opinions and it always ends up cluttering your dashboards. So, instead, I’m going to ask those of you who are willing to to send me an ask/submission with how you’ve felt living in all the halls you’ve lived in thus far. This can even be a short pro/con list. You can do this anonymously if you like, but in a day or two, I’m going to create a master page on people’s thoughts about living in particular halls. That way we’ll get less repeat questions on halls.

Thanks!

It Seems We’ve Come Full Circle

When I began my education at NAU three autumns ago, I was enthusiastic and insatiably curious. Well, as Socrates says, “the only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” I suppose that seems as a good a place as any to begin.

New piece of information

According to an [old] official press release through Inside NAU, if a student progresses through their degree in the normally allotted time, and then a class needed to graduate isn’t offered in their last semester, NAU will pay for the additional term it would take to complete the course. Anyone want to take them up on that?

Wow I didn't realize meal plans were that expensive!! $1900/semester?! That's insane!! Is it worth it? Or do you think it would be a good idea to just pay $750 for dining dollars? I definitely dont want to starve, but almost $2000 a semester is not ok!! what do you recommend?

Well, it depends. Freshman don’t have the luxury of just purchasing dining dollars.

I had the 14 meals a week plan my freshman year, and it worked out pretty well, but I always had meals left over. Last year, I had the 150 meals a semester plan and that was an amazing meal plan because I was able to use as many or as few meals as I wanted at any given time. Last semester, I had $750 dining dollars and was left with too many, but that’s because I live in Pine Ridge and can cook when I want to.

It’s cheaper to buy your own groceries and eat on-campus once a day, but if you’re a freshman, I’d just get the 14 meals a week plan for the extra $50.

Do you know anything about NAU's ROTC programs, or someone who does know about them?

Well, here’s the NAU Air Force ROTC FAQ, and the Army ROTC FAQ. As well as the official Army ROTC FAQ and Air Force FAQ.

The NAU Army ROTC also has a facebook page, so someone there could probably answer your questions.

Where can I find the schedule for spring semester exams? & when we have to move out and such.

The finals schedule is here. Students are supposed to be moved out 24 hours after their last final, but the halls don’t officially close until that Friday morning.

Where on campus can I print for free?

The LEADS Center, I’m pretty sure.

Do some residence halls fill up faster then others? Also if your from out of state and you can only make it to the orientation in the end/middle of august does it affect your housing/classes?

Residence halls will fill up based on popularity. When I was a high school senior, everyone told me to choose Sechrist or Reilly, so I picked Sechrist. Since running this blog, Allen and Wilson have become extremely popular due to testimony by former residents.

Unfortunately, later orientation can affect classes. NAU counselors design students a schedule, but when you come to orientation, your advising hold is removed and you’re allowed to pick classes as you want (unless they’re full or have a prereq). If you want to change your classes, I’d message your adviser for assistance. As for housing, it isn’t affected because housing is picked before orientation.

Just a few questions from an incoming 2012 freshmen about orientation. 1. Are we required to stay in one of the dorms overnight or can we go back to the hotel with our family after day one? 2. How are we put into our groups for orientation? Is it like a organized by last name type thing or if my friend (who is also attending NAU) and I show up together can we be in the same group?

You can stay with your family if you want to, but then you won’t get the “residence hall experience” I can’t remember how groups were organized, but if you have a relaxed orientation leader then maybe they’ll let you guys go together.

Anonymous wanted to know:
For Freshman orientation, can you bring a friend who isnt going to NAU? And if you bring a friend (and a parent), where do the go the whole orientation day? and what do they do specifically? (Can my friend join me in the student activities they have?)

I’m pretty sure you can bring a friend, but you have to register them and pay the applicable fee ($65 for first guest, $25 for subsequent guests) I assume they’d do all the same things you do (if they’re your age). Parents participate in different events than students.
